Rockland's only P.F. Chang's location at The Shops at Nanuet has closed after 10 years.

News of the restaurant closure circulated on local Facebook groups over the Labor Day weekend after pictures were shared of a sign on the door indicating the closure, which appeared to have abruptly shuttered its business over the Labor Day weekend.

The P.F. Chang's website has also indicated the restaurant's closure, but it is unclear when operations ended.

The restaurant first opened in 2014 as an anchor tenant for the Simon Property Group's newly built Shops of Nanuet that replaced the former Nanuet Mall in 2013.

The former 11-ft terracotta white horses visible from Route 59 welcomed hundreds of customers to the pan-Asian casual dining restaurant since its opening but appeared to face difficulty as the nationwide franchise struggled following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Shops at Nanuet have also faced some financial hardships and difficulties keeping tenants in the shopping center. What was once filled with major tenants like Macy's , Bonefish Grill, Fairway and Starbucks is left with few remaining luxury stores and many more empty storefronts.

The owners of Shops of Nanuet recently settled a tax challenge with the town in July that led to the town of Clarkstown and Nanuet school district reimbursing more than $2 million in previously paid property taxes. Clarkstown and the Clarkstown school district are also reimbursing $18 million to the Palisades Center , which is currently fighting a foreclosure case .

However, some of the shopping center's vacancies have been filled in recent years. Home décor store AtHome replaced Macy's, Buffalo Wild Wings replaced Zinburger and Stop & Shop replaced Fairway. Some original high-end stores like J. Crew, Loft, Lush and Gap still remain, along with main tenants Regal Cinemas and 24 Hour Fitness.

As of Friday, the White Plains P.F. Chang's at The Westchester is the only remaining location in the Hudson Valley. The sign on the Nanuet location's door also directed patrons to visit the Hackensack location at the Shops at Riverside Mall.
