Man dies when his car is struck by wrong-way driver on the Hutch

A motorist was killed Sunday morning on the Hutchinson River Parkway when his car was struck by a wrong-way driver in Rye Brook, Westchester County police said.

The crash occurred just after 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes about a half mile south of King Street. The victim's car burst into flames and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The wrong-way driver was taken to Westchester Medical Center.

Police have not identified either driver and no information about possible charges was available Sunday. It was not immediately clear where the southbound driver had entered the northbound lanes.

The crash remains under investigation by patrol officers, the Accident Investigation Team and detectives from the General Investigations Unit.
