A school year is 180 days, with no two days and no two schools exactly alike. The students differ, the teachers differ, school cultures differ. Here, our photographers find what makes our school days anything but ordinary, the people and programs and events that make a difference, school day in and school day out.

Yonkers Public Schools hosted its first convocation at the Westchester County Center in White Plains on Wednesday, Sept. 4. The event brought together 3,798 employees, including all teachers, administrators, safety officers and other staff as the district prepared to kick off the 2024-2025 school year.

In his first year, Superintendent Anibal Soler, Jr. addressed the crowd, delivering an inspiring message focused on unity, excitement and the district’s commitment to excellence. This gathering aimed to foster enthusiasm and celebrate the strength of Yonkers Public Schools as the district looks forward to another year of growth and success.

What a debacle the first day of school. And, then the second and, then the third very disappointing in this city. I do not want to hear that This is the third largest city in New York State. You just didn’t find THAT out. It was the third largest city in New York State when it became a sanctuary city You have known you failed already the first day of school the second day of Education & transportation failed. I give you a F.

Not too bright. Parking was a nightmare and this could’ve saved thousands of dollars having this over a mandatory zoom call. Cars were towed & booted. Legends in their own minds
