Who's in the mood for a 10 foot long pizza?

"My mother's menu consisted of two choices: Take it or leave it." -- Buddy Hackett

So... I have jury duty this week so this will be short and sweet. One: I hope you listened to the podcast I did with restaurant consultant Kyle Inserra which came out Monday and is called Closed on Mondays. Link is HERE .

Second, I hope you read about the many Westchester restaurants that opened and more that are coming. I'm bummed I couldn't go to the friends and family opening of KPOT Korean BBQ, in Scarsdale (their first in Westchester!) which features both all-you-can-eat PLUS little stove ranges on your table so you can cook your own meat (I had other plans).

It's a very fun dining experience and one I enjoyed when I was in Seoul a year ago. The fact that they have a colorful selfie wall and play up their aesthetics is another plus for Instagram-me!

Another super fun experience worth mentioning is the 10-foot-long pizza I shared with my colleague and NJ counterpart Kara VanDooijeweert. If you like dining in Bergen, her Instagram is insane (go to @northjerseyeats). We met at Mille Lucia in New City so I could learn some tricks of the trade from her — and also so we could enjoy great pizza together.

Why I love Mille Lucia: they use Pinsa, a distinctive dough that's a blend of wheat, rice and soy flours. Thanks to a 48 to 72 hour fermentation process, it's low-fat, low calorie and easy to digest. The crust is thin, light and airy, a perfect canvas for toppings. Plus I love the crunch! I also love the family story and father/son behind the business.

The pizza is customizable up to 10 flavors (one per foot); we got the Italiano (with cherry tomatoes, San Marzano, Fior di Latte, red onion, Gaeta olives, Pecorino, anchovies and basil); the Snow White (Fior Di Latte, ricotta, roasted garlic, black pepper, hot honey and Pecorino Romano) and Vodka "Diavolo" with spicy sopressata.

They also, for the record, do a great gluten-free pie. Just be warned: the restaurant is cash only, though there's an ATM (with no fee) on the premises.

More Rockland news to come — a lot is opening there as well but hey, with jury duty this week, a gal can only do so much. So please be patient!

    Best Bites

(Things I ate -- and loved -- this week)

    • Focaccia sandwich at Omni Caffe in Scarsdale. I'm partial to Italian food, what can I say? This cafe hits the mark, making you feel like you're sitting at a neighborhood spot in Bologna. I love their coffee, their pastries, their sandwiches, their vibe. This was a "best thing I ate this week;" see story below.
    • Mezze Mix at 118 Kitchen Table in Port Chester . An appetizer that's large enough to feed two or even three is always a winner in my book! Expect a large piece of wood-fired flat bread with a variety of dips, namely Spicy Feta, Hummus, Eggplant Salad, Labneh, Eggplant And Tahini and Muhamarah.
    • Thai Chili wings at House of Wings in Mount Vernon. This 12-stool eatery is on my list of recently opened places and is more than wings. Though I loved the wings — there are lots of choices when it comes to sauces — I also loved the smashburger on Texas toast bread. The cereal milkshakes are also quite good.
