Halloween season is in full swing here in the Hudson Valley, where there is no shortage of spectacular spooks, from witches on water to pet parades to costume contests and more. Read on for the details of six Halloween parades happening in Westchester and Rockland counties in the coming weeks.
Sleepy Hollow SUP Witches Festival
Ready to get wicked on the Hudson? Check out the SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding) Witches Festival in Sleepy Hollow , a spooky-sight-to-see for the Westchester area. During the event, stand-up paddleboarders don their most witchy wardrobes, grab their “brooms” (in this case, their paddles), climb onto their boards and float along the Hudson River for a Halloween-themed paddle parade.
Don't want to hit the water? Not to worry! Everyone who attends is encouraged to dress in costume for this water wonder.
When: Noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13. (Rain date: Sunday, Oct. 20. Paddlers should plan to arrive from 11 to 11:30 a.m. to unload equipment and check in.)
Where: Kingsland Point Park, Tarrytown Light-Kingsland Point Path, Sleepy Hollow. (For GPS, use Kathryn Davis RiverWalk Center, 266 Palmer Ave, Sleepy Hollow.)
Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade at Playland Beach & Boardwalk
Get your pets into the howl-o-ween spirit! Playland welcomes pets and their owners to the boardwalk and beach , where owners are encouraged to dress their furry, four-legged friends (and themselves!) in costumes for this precious pawrade .
This family-friendly evening celebrates Halloween with DJs, live music, performers, floats, costume contests and much more. Participate by watching along the parade route or register to be in the parade with a float, as a group or as an individual for a chance to win prizes.
(Those who wish to march in the parade must register by Saturday, Oct. 19.)
When: 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26
Where: The parade starts at Patriots Park, Broadway, Tarrytown. (Parade spectators are not allowed in Patriots Park.) The parade then travels south along Broadway, turns right at Main Street and continues moving east along Main Street.
This famed Halloween tradition in downtown Nyack is set to be “frighteningly fun,” according to the Chamber of Commerce's website . Enjoy live music and entertainment, contests for best costume, float and even best pet costume with a total of $2,000 in cash prizes. Those who wish to participate in the parade must register.
When: 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26. (Rain date: Sunday, Oct. 27. Float and costume contests are judged prior to the parade. Review the day’s schedule of events online at NyackChamber.org for more details.)

The parade then travels south on Piermont Avenue to Cedar Hill Avenue, west on Cedar Hill Avenue, north on Broadway to Main Street, west to Franklin Street and south to Artopee Way, ending near the municipal parking lot on Main Street.
Looking for a little fur-iendly competition this Halloween season? Check out the Pet Parade & Fashion Contest Show in downtown Yonkers by the waterfront. Pets will compete for a prize in the fashion contest for scariest, cutest and most creative costumes. Throw in a free 360-degree video booth, free gift bags for pets, and tons of center-stage attention for those furry friends for a howling good time.
Those who’d like to compete in the fashion contest must complete free registration prior to the event. Each pet that participates must be registered.
