    The hamlet of Tappan, roughly three square miles in the Town of Orangetown, sits along the New Jersey border in the southern section of Rockland County. Steeped in Revolutionary War and World War II history, Tappan was the home to the first courthouse in 1691 in what was then Orange County, and the first school in the county built in 1711.
