NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 7:15 p.m. Friday evening reports of a woman struck by a vehicle in the 5300 block of Douglas Fir Road alerted Newton County Central Communications E-911.
Redings Mill Fire, Newton County Deputies and Newton County Ambulance responded. The Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.
Witnesses say they observed a white pickup truck strike the woman and flee the scene.
The adult female was gravely injured and pronounced deceased on scene.
Authorities secured the roadway, closing all traffic east and west. Troopers summoned the MSHP Troop D MCIU for crash investigation (Major Crash Investigation Unit).
The Newton County Coroner Dale Owens was requested to the scene and claim the body. Next of kin were notified.
Troopers and Newton County Deputies remained on scene as the investigation extended to about 10:45 p.m. before it was released.
Troop D released a statement about 10 p.m. regarding the pickup that fled the scene.
“ Please be on the lookout for a white, late 1990’s to early 2000’s Dodge Dakota 4 door truck. Last seen driving westbound from MO 43 and Douglas Fir Road in Newton County. Vehicle was involved in a fatal leaving the scene crash. It will have damage to the front end. Call 417-895-6868 with any information. ” — MSHP Troop D
The pickup was last seen traveling toward Loma Linda, Mo. near the Oklahoma and Kansas state lines.
