LONDON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Multiple law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into a major drug trafficking case in Laurel County. Police brought down the organization leading the operation in London.

Greg Lane is home to a relatively quiet neighborhood, but Lonnie Morgan said the night of June 6 came as a rude awakening.

Over 20 pounds of meth, 23 guns seized from ‘drug trafficking organization’ allegedly supplying Laurel, Clay counties

“I went out around midnight to throw something in my garbage can,” said Morgan. ”And there was probably six police officers down that road.”

That night the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force raided Vernon Delph’s home a few doors down. Police confiscated more than 11 pounds of meth, eight pounds of marijuana, and 23 firearms. Detectives also seized more than $15,000 in cash.

While the magnitude of this operation was shocking to see, Morgan said drugs aren’t a stranger to the area.

“You do see a lot of it on the news. People are getting arrested for and busted for it.”

“Daily, we have investigations going and even the higher level investigations are always occurring here,” added Gilbert Acciardo, the public affairs deputy for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Acciardo said meth use in particular is a problem. He said two other people allegedly involved with the same organization as Delph were arrested on June 20, Jay Boykin, of Georgia, and Caronda Tilman, of Tennessee. Police confiscated about nine pounds of meth from them.

“We’re fighting the battle and we’re having some great success with multiple agencies working together because you have more resources out there and you can do more with everybody working together on the same team,” said Acciardo.

Morgan said these three arrests certainly make him feel safer in his home and community.

“Any time they do, a drug bust is good for the community,” said Morgan. “It puts another dealer off the streets and hopefully his product don’t get to people so they can use it.”

“People are going to get the idea, ‘Hey, you don’t come to Laurel County and deal drugs or sell drugs or supply drugs because you’re going to get caught,’” said Acciardo.

Acciardo said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected. Delph’s case was handed over to a grand jury. Tilman and Boykin are due to appear in court on Tuesday.
