Wisconsin Innovation Awards names two Verona finalists
Verona-based companies Happy Scratch and Self Fund Health are among 31 finalists for the 2024 Wisconsin Innovation Awards. According to a Wisconsin Innovation Awards press release, this honor recognizes the state’s most innovative and forward-thinking companies and individuals. The awards seek to celebrate and inspire innovation, spotlighting those who are making significant contributions to their fields and driving the future of Wisconsin’s economy.
City against proposed gravel pit in Town of Verona
The City of Verona has sent a letter to the Town of Verona in opposition of an application for a proposed sand and gravel operation. For the second time now, the City of Verona Common Council’s July 22 agenda included a discussion about a conditional use permit (CUP) application that was recently filed with Dane County for a Wildcat Sand and Gravel Pit in the Town of Verona.

Davenport Iowa Man Arrested in Grant County for Operating while Intoxicated
At around 9:00 pm on 7/21/24, Grant County Dispatch received a 911 call about a three-vehicle crash located south of the City of Boscobel. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and identified Frank M. Klee, a 55-year-old from Davenport, IA, as the driver who lost control of his vehicle and collided with a guardrail. This caused his vehicle to block traffic, resulting in two other vehicles, a 2023 Honda driven by Jordan Powers and a 2013 Dodge Caravan driven by Grace Ideker, to collide and sustain significant damage while trying to avoid the blockage.

Casey Rabach Named Badgers Assistant Coach

More layoffs at freight-related firms: 607 workers cut across 4 states
Layoffs continue across the commercial transportation and freight industry, according to a new round of worker reduction notices in Florida, Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin. It is the second round of layoffs since the beginning of July. Averitt Express, Bath & Body Works Logistics Services, ShipBob, and Henry Avocado Corp. announced a total of 218 layoffs earlier in the month.
