The Lone Star Volunteer Fire Department was full of concerned residents as several council members’ seats sat empty and Mayor Brianna McClain made a statement.

“Over the past month, I have been approached numerous times regarding concerns involving our city employees. The supposed issues at hand were not brought to myself or the employees directly, the issues were circulated around until I got wind of them. Regardless of the employee or the issue, I have made it a priority to address each concern promptly,” Mayor McClain said.

The city council meeting on the evening of April 18 had a full agenda, planning to discuss plans for East Texas Data Management at city hall, permissions and policies with the Lone Star Volunteer Fire Department, authorization to participate in a new home program, and a proposed water contract with the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District. However, due to several council members not present, Mayor McClain announced that they would not be able to hold quorum. Before dismissing the residents, she put out a statement. In this statement, she touched on multiple disputes that had been brought to her attention. These included issues with water bills, city employees allegedly not working while clocked in, and claims about abusing the miles reimbursement system.

“I urge all council members to exercise diligence and restraint in their actions and allegations,” Mayor McClin said. “Baseless accusations only serve to undermine the morale of our dedicated employees and hinder the progress of our city.”

The city council meeting is being rescheduled. McClain’s full statement can be found on Facebook at www. facebook.com/mayor.of.lone.star.tx.
