The former police chief of Lone Star, Steven Blythe, is recovering from a surgery after a heart attack.

Earlier this month, Blythe had brought up some questions in the community by submitting a formal resignation for his position as the police chief. There have not been any further comments on this from the Mayor or city workers.

According to city council member and close friend of the Blythe family, Cyndi Andrews, Steven had a heart attack on Sunday, July 14. He was rushed to Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, where they ran tests on his heart. After seeing the results, he was sent to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. Steven underwent a triple bypass surgery on Wednesday, July 17. He is said to be recovering well and was released from the hospital on Monday, July 22.

Andrews told the Bee that they are glad he is recovering, but the family is now asking the community for financial help.

“We are currently selling raffle tickets for a $500 cash prize drawing,” Andrews said. “ Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The drawing will be held on August 24. I am currently working on a benefit for the Blythe Family as well. Dates and times will be posted at a later date for that benefit.”

The buckets for the raffle tickets and donations went out on Monday, July 22, and the locations in Lone Star are as follows:

    • Arnold’s Family Restaurant: 206 N Main St

    • The Rabbit Hole Too: 231 N Main St

    • Lone Star Sweepstakes Game Room: 1000 N Main St

    • Phillips 66, 530 N Main St The ABC Auto in Daingerfield will also have a bucket for donations. Any and all donations are welcome and greatly appreciated to help Steven and his family.

Any questions or concerns about the fundraiser, Andrews encourages calling her at 903-3995983.
