Area Student to Participate in Governor’s Charity Steer Show in August
The 42nd Governor’s Charity Steer Show will be held August 10th during the 2024 Iowa State Fair. The event, hosted by the Office of the Governor of Iowa, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and Iowa Beef Industry Council, helps raise money for the three independent Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa, located in Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City.
Area transient with string of alleged thefts strikes again
An area transient that has been arrested numerous times in the last month on various charges has been taken into custody again after an alleged theft of alcohol. According to police, 41-year-old Porscha Curry was inside the CVS Pharmacy on Muscatine Avenue Monday morning and stole an item worth approximately $50. She returned Monday night and took several bottles of alcohol from the shelf. Curry reportedly made no effort to conceal her actions, and walked toward the exit without paying for any of the items.
Potential changes to city ordinances could make parking and storing trailers, RVs easier in Washington
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Parking trailers, R-V’s, and other large, operable vehicles could soon become easier for Washington residents. City Council members are set to approve the new ordinance, which would allow such vehicles to be parked on people’s yards, so long as the owner placed them on an all-weather surface, like gravel or cement.
