School Supply Giveaway Next Week
The Washington Area Ministerial Alliance, in conjunction with Washington County businesses, community members, and the Salvation Army, will be holding a school supply giveaway next week for area children. Backpacks and supplies will be available for children or caregivers to choose from from 4:30 to 7:30 pm in the Washington Public Library. The supplies are for grades pre-k through 12th grade. Iowa City man accused of second domestic assault incident
An Iowa City man was arrested Sunday night after an alleged assault on the mother of his two children. The incident reportedly occurred at the Broadway Street residence of 45-year-old Lfils Luvoma at around 7:45pm. According to police, he pushed his girlfriend against the wall. She then attempted to get a phone out of Luvoma’s pants pocket, causing him to reportedly strike her several times in the back.
Iowa City man charged after allegedly setting up fake social media accounts under UI Police detective’s name
An Iowa City man was arrested Monday after allegedly setting up social media accounts under a University of Iowa detective’s name in order to harass and intimidate him. According to the criminal complaint, Detective Ian Mallory testified at trial in February against 28-year-old Elizabeth Jorgensen and 26-year-old Isadora Kippes, who were found guilty of disorderly conduct for their role in protests on the University of Iowa campus in April and October 2023.

A New Dog Park Will Open in Cedar Rapids This Week
Cedar Rapids will get its third dog park later on this week! The 12th Avenue Dog Park is set to open its gates on Friday, July 19th at 10:30 a.m. Located at 405 12th Avenue SE in the Oak Hill Jackson Neighborhood, the 12th Avenue Dog Park is around a half-acre in size. It is completely fenced-in and equipped with benches and concrete entry areas, but there is still more to come. The Cedar Rapids city website says:
