Area transient arrested after series of thefts
A series of erratic behaviors has landed an area transient in jail. The incidents began a little after 7:30 Friday morning, when 38-year-old Kofi Adu-Sarkodie was observed stealing sunglasses from HyVee Gas on Stevens Drive. An employee tried to take a picture of him to show police, but Adu-Sarkodie allegedly smacked the employee’s hand.

Area transient wanted on warrant found with drugs when arrested
An area transient wanted for failing to appear at a case management conference on Monday was allegedly found with drugs when located by police Friday. 58-year-old Randal Mauderer was located on the 1200 block of South Gilbert Street just before 7pm and arrested on the warrant, which stemmed from an assault causing bodily injury charge from this past October. During a search incident to arrest, officers reportedly located a clear plastic bag with a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana in his back pocket.
North Liberty man with history of multiple OWIs reportedly found driving under the influence
A North Liberty man with a history of OWIs was arrested for the same offense this week. Officers stopped 54-year-old Rovon Heller of Salm Drive on the 2000 block of 10th street in Coralville after allegedly observing him commit multiple traffic violations. When officers came up to Heller’s vehicle, they reportedly could immediately smell the odor of ingested alcohol. He reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes and admitted to drinking.
Ravens Welcome Wildcats For Super Conference Softball on KCII3
Softball action is featured on the KCII3 Stream tonight, as the Columbus Wildcats come to Kalona for a fight with Hillcrest Academy. After a 3-1 start to 2024, the Ravens find themselves caught in a five-game skid, dropping their latest to Mediapolis last night. Offense has been hard to come by since a 13-1 rout of WACO to wrap up the month of May. Still, impressive numbers have been put up by Claire Withrow who leads the team in hits and carries a .579 average into tonight’s matchup. An opening-day home run and five doubles in eight games have propelled Delaney Shaw to a .727 slugging percentage. Entering the week Hillcrest was hitting .299 off 52 hits, plating just under 8 runs a game. In addition to a team-high 10 knocks, Malia Yoder has handled a majority of the pitching duties. Nearing 40 innings in the circle, she’s limited opponents to a .244 batting average with 55 strikeouts to 29 walks. Behind Yoder, the Ravens have cut down on the errors from a year ago for a fielding percentage of .871.

Iowa City is abuzz with excitement as the Hawkeyes’ incoming freshman class, consisting of 21 scholarship newcomers, has reported for workouts. While most of these freshmen are considered developmental prospects who will likely enter true competition in 2026, there are a few who have the potential to contribute on special teams this year. Additionally, there is a group of walk-ons who turned down FCS scholarships to compete at Iowa. Three scholarship freshmen, including tight end Gavin Hoffman, punter Rhys Dakin, and offensive lineman Josh Janowski, enrolled in January.
