Lone Tree man arrested for assault on woman and child trying to defend her
A Lone Tree man was arrested Sunday evening after an alleged assault at his Sioux Avenue residence. According to the arrest report, 42-year-old Christopher Walmsley got into an argument with the victim that escalated into a physical assault. Multiple agencies respond to Iowa City mobile home park fire
Multiple agencies responded to a Tuesday afternoon fire at an Iowa City mobile home park. Fire departments from Iowa City, Hills, Riverside and Lone Tree were all dispatched to a structure fire on the 900 block of Spring Ridge Drive in the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community just after 3:30. The fire was brought under control just before 4:00, and all units were back in service by 4:45.
Authorities are investigating after an Iowa City resident was bitten by a cat
Iowa City — In eastern Iowa, authorities are investigating after a person was bitten by a cat on Monday evening. Iowa City Animal Services was called to the scene in the 900 block of Iowa Avenue near downtown. It happened there at around 9:30 p.m. The victim said they were trying to pick up the cat when it reacted and bit them. Right now, Iowa City Animal Services is seeking out any details about the rabies vaccination status of that cat.

Transient with lengthy criminal history arrested again for allegedly throwing a suitcase through a window
A local transient with a lengthy criminal history is back behind bars after he allegedly threw a suitcase through a window. Iowa City Police were called to a criminal mischief complaint at the 501 Apartments on Southgate Avenue just after 4:15 Tuesday morning. An investigation determined that 56-year-old Gary Leon Duffel II had thrown a suitcase through a window, causing an estimated $700 in damage. Duffel reportedly showed signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, and refused breath testing.
Iowa City coffee shop Tru Coffee closes doors
After three years in downtown Iowa City, Tru Coffee has closed its doors as of June 1. According to a Tuesday evening Instagram post from owner Haley Kesterson, the coffee shop’s time at 287 N. Linn St. has “come to an end.” Although the post states that the future of Tru Coffee as a whole remains uncertain, the shop is “pausing to rest and reflect.”
