Police called in SWAT officers and evacuated a McDonald’s restaurant near Del Amo and Long Beach boulevards Monday morning during a standoff with a man who refused to get out of his vehicle.

The situation began around 7:30 a.m. on Plymouth Street in North Long Beach where officers were called about the man violating a restraining order, according to Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Alexis Lauro.

The man fled before officers got there, but they soon found him about 10 blocks away in the McDonald’s parking lot.

Officers tried to get the man to come out of the grey van he was in, but he refused, according to police.

“Shortly after, SWAT resources responded and were eventually able to take the suspect safely into custody without incident,” Lauro said in an email. People at the scene said he appeared to come out of the van and surrender.

Police said the man was booked on suspicion of a parole violation and obstructing or resisting a police officer. He was held without bail, Lauro said.

This story was updated with more information from police.
