Mobile Coffee Concept Puts Down Roots in Long Beach

Carmen’s Coffee Company – a mobile coffee concept currently housed in a Chevy P32 – is taking over the former Pop’s Java space at 449 E. Broadway . However, owners Elisa Margoni-Bertone and John Bertone have recently run into permitting and zoning issues with the city over the shop.

“We were very excited to walk into an existing coffee shop and give it the love and attention it needed to flourish with the surrounding community. We signed the lease and paid our deposits. Took our proof of lease to the city to do our proper business license to then we were told that the space we had leased is not a coffee shop and is not zoned to be a coffee shop…and we were told that the interior should have had an ADA restroom and the buildout inside never had a permit to be built,” the Bertones told Longbeachize . “We love the location and that is why we have not walked away from this opportunity.”

Carmen’s offers a full-service espresso and tea bar, vegan and gluten free pastries, Spanish pressed panini’s, breakfast quiche, house nitro cold brew, and a toddler friendly beverage menu. They have been serving the Long Beach community for the past five years with their coffee truck.
