Long Beach completed its first full day with new restrictions aimed at preventing overcrowding.

The new rules come after thousands of teenagers were on the beach last week, and a 16-year-old boy was shot near the train station.

The beach is now closed at dusk, with the exception of pre-approved events.

Beach passes are required seven days a week, nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.

Beach passes in Long Beach are typically only required on weekends and holidays during the first month of the season.

Full time beach pass enforcement had originally been scheduled to start on June 27.

On Tuesday, the Long Beach City Council is expected to vote on a measure that would give the city manager power to close the beach or the boardwalk at his discretion.
