The Bessies, Announce Inaugural Board of Directors, Organizational Restructuring, and 2024 Ceremony Pause
The New York Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies has announced restructuring the organization in 2024 with sustainability at the forefront. This year, for the first time, the Bessies will welcome an inaugural board of directors. Members of the board include Dave Archuletta, Aziza A. Bowser, Esq., and Charles Vincent Burwell. Together, they will work to pursue independent nonprofit status for the Awards, as well as expand fundraising practices within the organization. In addition to incorporating as a 501(c)3, the board plans to build partnerships with mission-aligned organizations in order to further its impact in the community.
Scooter operator seriously injured in Hauppauge crash
Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a scooter operator in Hauppauge on Aug. 25. Brian Ahrens was riding an electric scooter westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway, 200 feet east of H. Lee Dennison Building Drive, when he crossed into the path of and was struck by a westbound 2015 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Thomas Vito, at 4:49 a.m.

Babylon’s The Argyle Theatre closes out its wonderful fifth season with another smash hit, 1961’s Tony Award winning Bye Bye Birdie. Parodying the mania that ensued when Elvis Presley was drafted into the army, Bye Bye Birdie tells the story of recently drafted rock icon Conrad Birdie who travels to a small Ohio town to provide "one last kiss" to his biggest fan, Kim McAfee, before going off to war. Along for the ride are Conrad's manager/songwriter Albert Peterson, Albert's secretary and girlfriend Rose Alvarez and Albert's meddling mother Mae Peterson.
