Tech outage affects passengers at Cherry Capital Airport
TRAVERSE CITY -- Millions of airline passengers, including people flying out of Traverse City’s Cherry Capital Airport were affected by a world-wide internet outage. The outage was experienced by Microsoft and impacted different services, including airlines. Passengers at Cherry Capital were left unable to check in to their flights. To be clear, it was problem for the airlines, not the airport itself. “At 4:00 this morning, we received notification that some of the airline tenants were having some computer problems. So with that, we immediately did an inventory of all airport systems. So make sure our safety and security systems were all intact and operating fine. Our next step then was to talk with the FAA to make sure all those systems were fine. And then the TSA. So once we knew the safety security systems of the airport were all intact and that we then started to learn that it wasn’t a cyber attack, it was a computer update,” said Cherry Capital Airport CEO, Kevin Klein

(Editor’s Note: Township Trustee Rudy Rudolph maps out just some of the ways our Planner, Jenn Cram, is working on behalf of Old Mission Peninsula residents. -jb) There have been some recent criticisms of Peninsula Township’s Planning Office that, in my opinion, are totally unwarranted. In particular, one of the candidates for Township Supervisor has indicated that his top priority is to “clean house” in the Planning Department.

Zoning — Conditional rezoning
Where a dispute has arisen regarding whether Mayfield Township could conditionally rezone a property to allow the use of a dragway, a conditional rezoning is invalid under MCL 125.3405(1) if the proposed use is not permitted — either by right or after special approval — within the proposed zoning district, so a remand is necessary to determine whether a dragway is a permitted use in the township’s C-2 district.

Manton to host Hometown Heroes veterans event in August
MANTON — The Manton community will soon be showing their appreciation for those who served our country. Next month, several community organizations in Manton will be hosting their first ever Hometown Heroes Day at Manton Rotary Park. Organizers say it’s a great chance for vets to share comradery, show their military pride and have a chance to visit the Manton Veterans Memorial Museum. They do have one special request for those who attend: “We encourage people to wear something from their unit. Like a hat or a patch or something, so you can be distinguished by what unit you were in,” said Manton Chamber of Commerce Vice President Shelly Emery.
