EAGLE RIVER, Wis. ––Trees For Tomorrow (TFT), a non-profit environmental education center, will be holding a foraging class on Sept. 16 as a part of its Sustainable Living Institute (SLI). Participants will gain an understanding of how to sustainably harvest wild plants and fungi through the help of Emilymae King-Ryden. King-Ryden has led a multitude of local foraging programs through Nicolet Area Technical College and has also led many walks and lectures for the Northstate Mycology Club. “I can’t wait to share my knowledge about the Northwood’s wild foods and am excited to help contribute to participant’s knowledge of sustainable living,” states Ms. King-Ryden. She will help participants learn how to identify edible plants and fungi as well as the ones that are best to be admired from a distance.
Golden K Begins 2024 Fundraiser for ‘Gifts From Santa’
IRON RIVER - The Iron County Golden K Club has begun its annual fund drive for the ‘Gifts From Santa’ project. The ‘Gifts From Santa’ project originally began as ‘Snaps With Santa’ in the 1980’s through Leo Konwinski. The Golden K took over the project, renaming it ‘Gifts From Santa’ in 2005. This project provides Christmas presents for all the nursing home residents, approximately 175-200 in Iron County, including those at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, the Iron River Care Center and the Boyington Place.
