Last-minute cancellation leads Faribault Harley-Davidson to create track, host race
With about a month until the race, organizers were shocked to hear the venue was cancelling. The Cannon Falls City Council had convinced the board of Cannon Valley Fairgrounds to cut ties with Faribault Harley-Davidson, following complaints about noise associated with the race. The venue pulled out as the host of the race. The chair of the Fair Board had just built a “totally gorgeous” go-kart track earlier this year,...

NP demo derby driver looking forward to county fair crashes
A week ago, he said the likelihood his truck would be ready for the Scott County Fair’s demolition derby was 50-50. Sunday, July 21, the odds had improved to 70-30. Corey Fehler is looking forward to crashing into someone. Just for fun. The New Prague resident is preparing a 1999 Ford F250 for the trucks category of the derby. He’s made the vehicle as stiff as possible within the context of the rules. His work has addressed the truck’s engine, its transmission, the wheels and frame. He’s acquired nearly all the parts and equipment he expects will be needed to have the truck ready to go. The challenge will be if the existing equipment works properly, he said.

Tigers 7, Twins 2: Javy keeps cookin’, Tarik keeps dealin’
After Friday night’s stinkfest, the Tigers looked to right the ship with their ace on the mound. That they did, with a convincing 7-2 win on a warm Saturday evening. Said ace, Tarik Skubal, in the opinion of this humble scribe, needs to stay put. The ninth-rounder from the Pacific Northwest was surprisingly hittable in a seven-inning outing a few days ago in Cleveland. But hey, he only gave up one run, and the last time I checked, the team that gets the most hits in a game doesn’t necessarily win. But overall, Skubal’s leading the league in ERA, is striking out almost 11 every nine innings, has a WHIP under 1, all that jazz.
