Study Warns: ‘Toxic Compounds’ Found in Sun-Exposed Plastic Bottles
Louisiana folks already have a hard time keeping cool in the summertime, and now we have to worry that our bottled water might be unsafe to drink. We have all forgotten our water bottles in the car on a hot summer day at some point. If you leave them in your car or in the sun long enough, you may have noticed that they have a strange chemical-like aftertaste. Scientists have been warning us that chemicals 'linked to hormonal imbalances' such as BPA can contaminate the liquid inside the bottle.
LDWF to hold public meeting to address Atchafalaya Basin freshwater fisheries concerns
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will hold a public meeting at 6 pm on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in the Joe Herring Room of the LDWF Headquarters office located at 2000 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge, La. Inland Fisheries biologists will present current and past data describing fisheries trends in the Atchafalaya Basin, with emphasis on largemouth bass and crappie populations. Topics will include bass stocking in the Basin, regulations, and a brief description of LDWF’s pilot Tournament Information Project (LATRIP). Following the presentations, the public will be invited to ask questions or express concerns.

Nikolas Brown pleads guilty to manslaughter
A 19-year-old Shreveporter pleaded guilty Thursday, July 18, 2024, to manslaughter in connection with the September 7, 2021 shooting death of a man in a trailer park. Nikolas Brown, agreed to serve a 20-year prison sentence for killing La’Derrick Grant, 19, in the Pinecrest trailer park. Grant and two companions were walking down the road in front of Brown’s residence when Brown started to argue with one of Grant’s companions over alleged social media communications with Brown’s girlfriend. Brown and Grant’s companion both were armed with handguns and as Grant and his companions walked away, shots rang out. Grant, who was not armed and posed no threat to Brown, was struck once in the chest and died on the scene.
New hours of operation for Shreve Memorial Library branches
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Changes in visiting times are causing the Shreve Memorial Library system to alter the hours of operation for its full-time library branches. “In order to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars, we are reducing the number of library branches open on Sundays. While many of our libraries will be closed on Sundays, we will still have some branches open so that those who need to use library services on Sundays are able to do so,” stated John Tuggle, Shreve Memorial Library Executive Director.
