UT Tyler breaks ground on Longview campus expansion

LONGVIEW, Texas ( KETK ) –  The University of Texas at Tyler held a groundbreaking for the expansion of their Longview University Center on Wednesday.

The event was attended by community leaders, faculty and students to celebrate the new addition.

According to the university, this location will serve programs in nursing, biology, chemistry, education and business.

“It will focus on continuing to help us expand on our nursing program,” said Campus Director for the UT Tyler Longview University Center Rodney Ellis.

UT Tyler faculty said the new building is expected to be done by the 2025 fall semester. It will feature a new classroom, several lab spaces for training and workstations for students to study.

“There will be lots of things going on in this building there will be general education classes, science classes, nursing classes,” UT Tyler President Julie V. Philley said. “[Classes] that’ll be partnered classes with Kilgore College and we also service our academy classes that is k-12 right here on this campus.”

She also said they are excited to help the growth in Gregg County and surrounding areas.

“This is one more way to bring higher education to the students to the Longview community to Gregg county and hopefully serve so many students,” Chairmen of the University of Texas Board of Regents Kevin Eltife said.
