Lifelong Natchitoches resident celebrates 100th birthday
Family and friends gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday for lifelong Natchitoches resident Laura Lavespere Saturday on July 20. She’s lived in the City of Lights since she was a teenager. She worked for years at Northwestern State University as a controller for approximately 30 years. She later worked at Gwen’s Ladies Wear until she retired to babysit her only granddaughter. She was married to Eugene Lavespere Sr. until his death in 1998. She has one son, Eugene Lavespere Jr.

N.O. teacher accused of driving escaped teen to Texas facing more charges
NEW ORLEANS — A woman accused in New Orleans of driving a juvenile escapee from Louisiana to Texas has now been hit with the identical criminal charge in Calcasieu Parish. Angela Filardo, 32, surrendered to authorities in Lake Charles Tuesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest for being an accessory to escape. As of late Tuesday afternoon, Filardo remained locked up in the Calcasieu Parish jail on a bail of $100,000, the amount set on her arrest warrant.
