WACO, Texas (KWTX) - For many children the cafeteria is a place to relax and refuel as they prepare to learn in class during the school year, and now that summer is here, Central Texas school districts have set up feeding locations to make sure their students stay healthy ahead of the new school year.
Former Texas State Representative Jim Pitts Passes Away at 73
DALLAS, Texas — Former Texas State Representative Jim Pitts passed away shortly before midnight on July 20, 2024, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim Pitts dedicated his life to public service, representing House District 10 in the Texas House of Representatives from 1993 to 2015. His district comprised Ellis County, Hill County, and a portion of Henderson County. During his tenure, he served as Chairman of Appropriations from 2005 to 2007 and from 2009 to 2015. Representative Pitts was known for his commitment to education, fiscal responsibility, and advocating for the needs of his constituents.

Texas Rattled By 3 Earthquakes In Rapid Succession Near Hermleigh
Texans were rocked with three earthquakes within an hour and a half Monday night. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the three earthquakes were reported at 10:38 pm, 10:46 pm, and 11:56 pm all within the area of Hermleigh, Texas. The first one registered at a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter Scale with the second registering at 4.4 and the third at 3.1.

Texas Tech backup QB Cameran Brown will have a regular role in 2024
They say that the most popular player on any roster is the backup quarterback. Given that Lubbock's native son Behren Morton will be the starter for Texas Tech in 2024, that might not hold true in Raiderland. Texas Tech head basketball coach Grant McCasland has announced the promotion of Chris Nottingham and the addition of Brian Pete to his coaching staff. Nottingham will serve as the Director of Player Development in his second season with the program, while Pete joins the staff as the Video Coordinator after previously working in the same role at Vanderbilt the past two seasons. Pete played at Gonzaga and has also has experience working for the San Antonio Spurs and Nike.
