PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On February 26 th , the Princeton City Council authorized the sale of property located at 1001 Mercer Street to Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center for $1,750,000 with contingencies. This decision reflects a similar authorization by the Princeton Building Commission on February 21 st . The contingencies approved are as follows: 1) termination of the active lease with New River Community Technical College; 2) confirmation of the permissibility of the sale from legal counsel; 3) New River Community Technical College not timely purchasing of the property from the City of Princeton and the Building Commission; 4) Preparation of an agreeable contract between Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center, City of Princeton, and the Princeton Building Commission. This sale also includes a restriction on dispensing medication on-site and a provision allowing New River Community Technical College to remain on-site until the end of the active semester at closing.

Within public meetings, Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center communicated that this possible acquisition would complement their other facilities as the headquarters for their core administrative offices and additional mental health providers. Further information on the use of the facility will be released if the sale is finalized.

This sale does not include property on the corner of Center and Mercer Streets. This lot will remain under the City of Princeton and Princeton Building Commission’s ownership for public parking.
