MABSCOTT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Ruby Davis, the last owner of local grocery store Davis Grocery, has passed away.

According to a niece of Ruby Davis, she passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024.

The mom-and-pop grocery store was opened by Ruby Davis’ late father-in-law George Davis in 1913 in Mabscott.

It was then run by her husband Fred Davis, the son of George Davis, until his passing in the 1980s.

Ruby took over ownership of the store and operated it until 2006.

The store served the community for over 90 years. Ruby decided to retire and close the store in 2006.

“She loved so many people that stopped there to shop,” said Deb Swanson, niece of Ruby Davis.

Swanson says Ruby moved to Maryland a few years ago with her nephew.
