City of Beckley to discuss proposed aquatic center at public meeting

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A proposed aquatic center for the City of Beckley will be the topic of discussion for an upcoming public meeting.

City of Beckley Mayor, Rob Rappold announced over the weekend that an information session will be held this week with regard to the topic. The meeting will seek input from members of the public in relation to the proposed development of an aquatic center facility at the site of New River Park’s Sharon Dempsey Pool .

Scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the meeting will take place at 6:00pm in Council Chambers at Beckley City Hall.

“All interested citizens are encouraged to attend the information session and will be afforded the opportunity to share their thoughts on the existing pool and proposed facility,” read a statement from the city.

Beckley City Hall is located at 409 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV 25801.

The meeting for the proposed aquatic center comes on the heels of years of public concern regarding the accessibility of pools throughout the city.

Lifeguard shortages and staffing issues have been the source of delayed openings and inconsistent availability of public pools to citizens in recent times.
