BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Construction has begun on a significant bike trail expansion at Cacapon Resort State Park, according to an announcement made by West Virginia State Parks officials on Friday.

The $3.5 million project aims to add 35 miles of professionally designed mountain bike trails to the park’s existing trail system.

“This is an incredible day for Cacapon Resort and West Virginia as we continue to invest in our world-class parks system,” said Brett McMillion, director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

“We are excited to get started on this ambitious project and look forward to all of the ways it will improve the experience at Cacapon Resort and attract new people to come and visit our beautiful state.”

The project intends to diversify the park’s trail system by incorporating mountain biking trails that utilize the park’s mountain landscape and cater to riders of all skill levels.

Additionally, the project will introduce bike amenities for park visitors and the community, create youth-focused bike areas, and construct a signature trail to attract riders from across the state and region.

The construction will occur in two phases, with the first phase, led by Greenstone Trailcraft, already underway.

The second phase is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025, with an expected completion date in 2026.

This trail expansion is part of a broader investment in the West Virginia State Parks system, which has seen over $250 million in improvement projects over the past seven years.
