LEWIS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is behind bars after he fired multiple shots because he was angry after he was drinking and accidentally backed his truck into a ditch .

On August 5, 2024, at around 10:12 PM, Deputy Lefever, along with Sergeant Lopez, were dispatched to 1861 Broad Run Road in Lewis County due to reports of gunshots in the vicinity.

Upon arrival, a neighbor presented us with a recording from a Nest Doorbell Camera that captured the sound of eleven gunshots accompanied by screams from a nearby house. Deputies noticed individuals with flashlights on the hillside and proceeded in that direction to locate the victims and their mother, who was searching for her car keys.

The victims informed deputies that the suspect, Mr. Praxedis Francisco Delgado, had returned home after a night of heavy drinking and had accidentally backed his truck into a ditch. He was reportedly irate and yelling.

According to his girlfriend, Mr. Delgado’s anger escalated when she mentioned contacting his brother about his drunken and violent behavior. At that point, Mr. Delgado began firing a loaded 9mm pistol into the woods while shouting at those present.

The victim’s children initially took refuge in a locked bathroom while Mr. Delgado was outside. They then ran into the yard when he entered the house. In his written witness statement, a victim reported hearing Mr. Delgado declare, “I’m going to shoot us,” before his mother managed to get him to go into the bedroom.

Another witness stated in his written account that he heard gunshots outside and rushed to investigate. He then called his grandmother out of fear when he realized Mr. Delgado was firing the weapon.

According to one witness, after entering the house, Mr. Delgado asked him, “Who said something?” The victim replied that he hadn’t said anything and quickly left to wait for his grandmother and the police to arrive. This incident occurred in Lewis County, West Virginia.
