Just for Kids Child Advocacy Center receives donation from Ashley Furniture

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Local organizations joined together in the interest of the greater good last week when Ashley Furniture contributed multiple pieces of furniture to the Just For Kids Child Advocacy Center’s Trudy’s House location in Beckley.

The contribution, which included a couch and chair set, came as a result of a chance meeting between Just For Kids Trauma Therapist Michelle Burgess and Eisenhower Drive Ashley Furniture Sales Manager, Mark Davis.

The encounter stemmed from a simple shopping trip to purchase furniture for the Just For Kids Trauma Suite, and as it turns out, Ashley Furniture works extensively to provide for children throughout local communities. One of the ways that this is accomplished is through a partnership with the Hope to Dream program which contributes beds, bedding, and mattresses to children in need.

“For every mattress that sold from our store, our company donates a twin-size frame, mattress, bedding, and a pillow,” says of the program. “We believe that a full night’s rest, that’s what our young people need.”

Given this background and the similarly aligned values of the organizations, Davis immediately began utilizing the resources at his disposal in what would prove to be a successful attempt to contribute much needed furniture additions to the Just For Kids Trauma Suite.

Just For Kids Executive Director, Dr. Deanee Johnson praised the mission of the program, making note of the potential benefits for children and families served by the agency.

“This is a perfect program for them to know about [and] for them to refer to,” said Dr. Johnson. “Because we have tons of kids and families that could benefit from a program like this.”
