ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One of the most highly anticipated social events of the year in the Athens area, the Athens-Concord Town Social will once again be bringing together members of the community on Sunday.

Scheduled to run from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, August 18, 2024, the annual event will coincide with orientation weekend for incoming Concord University freshmen. The gathering – in its 36th year this year – will serve as a prime opportunity to welcome new Concord students and to reunite those who attend the event each year.

Entertainment will be provided in the form of live music from Alabaster Boxer and the Allen Smith Band, with community groups, vendors, local businesses, regional artists, Concord organizations, and Athens High School reunion groups joining at the front lawn of the Jean and Jerry L Beasley Student Center for the highly anticipated tradition.

Vehicle enthusiasts will treated to the social’s car show at which participants will display their prized automobiles from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Prizes will be awarded as part of the display, including “The President’s Choice” award which will be distributed by university president Kendra Boggess . Registration for the car show will be held exclusively on-site between 11:00am to 12:00pm.

Community awards will also be given by the Town Social Committee. Awards set to be distributed as part of the proceedings will include The Good Neighbor award and the Total Community Involvement Award. Scholarships such as the Athens-Concord Town Social Scholarships and Jean Beasley Scholarship award will also be presented as part of the event.

The 36th Annual Athens-Concord Town Social will be co-presented by Concord University and the Town of Athens. Sponsors for the event include City National Bank, Truist, and First Community Bank.
