BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Woodrow Wilson High School staff and faculty members were joined by students, families, and local organizations on Monday for the school’s Third Annual Senior Expo event.

The event was hosted as a means of consolidating resources for Woodrow students to prepare them for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. It is the hope of organizers that the expo could effectively serve as a one-stop-shop for seniors, according to Woodrow Wilson High School Principal, Ryan Stafford.

“What we’re trying to do is connect the many resources that are within our community to form a one stop shop for our seniors as they’re getting ready to navigate their senior year,” said Stafford.

Various vendors and local organizations participated in the expo, setting up and offering valuable insight into various programs and opportunities available to both active students and high-school graduates. Medical staff were also on-hand to offer access to required immunizations for the students’ senior year, eliminating the additional hurdle of a physician visit.

“AccessHealth has a big presence within our school building and within several Raleigh County School buildings. Those folks are helping us get our senior shots. Students can drop off their senior shots today or they can actually receive their senior shots here tonight,” Stafford told LOOTPRESS. “We have a variety of local and state universities that are set up in our cafeteria here behind me and they’re having conversations with our parents and going over the different options afforded to our families. We’ve got job prospects here – the [West Virginia State Police; the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department; Beckley PD has a presence.”

While the expo sought to prepare students for the upcoming school year, organizers also hoped that the event could help to equip students with the tools needed to effectively navigate life’s obstacles once their time in the halls of Woodrow has reached its conclusion.

“We’re just trying to not only get our students off to a great start for their senior year, but also, hopefully, help to establish some connections that they can carry along with them as they move out into the workforce after their time here is done,” said Stafford.
