CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A hot and dry day is expected across the region today as a high-pressure system remains in control, keeping skies clear and humidity levels low.

However, temperatures are set to climb above normal, with highs reaching into the low 90s in many areas.

The dry weather won’t last long, as a low-pressure system will begin to move in tonight, bringing showers and thunderstorms that will last into the weekend.

Rain chances will increase overnight, with the potential for isolated strong to severe storms starting Friday afternoon and continuing through the evening.

These storms may bring heavy downpours, with some areas under a marginal risk for severe weather.

Saturday could see additional storms as the system lingers, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.

The unsettled weather is expected to extend into the start of the new work week, with conditions becoming more stable by mid-week as the low-pressure system moves out.
