FAIRLEA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Eric McEwuen, the State Coordinator for Operation Lifesaver in West Virginia, is on a mission to promote railroad safety at the State Fair of West Virginia.

Stationed in the West Virginia building, McEwuen and his team are dedicated to educating the public about the dangers of railroad tracks and the importance of adhering to safety measures.

“We travel around and promote safety on the railroad tracks,” said McEwuen. “Reminding everyone that the trains are running and to stay off the tracks. It’s not safe or legal for non-railroaders to be on them.”

Operation Lifesaver’s booth features a new display with model trains and operating crossing gates, providing a hands-on way to demonstrate the critical message: never cross the tracks when the gates are down.

“Even if you can’t see the train, it’s coming somewhere,” McEwuen emphasized.

The organization is particularly focused on engaging children, who are often fascinated by the trains and the display. “We love seeing the kids, especially those who like to watch the trains go by,” McEwuen added.

You have one more day to visit the Operation Lifesaver booth and grab your own engineer’s hat as the fair concludes on Saturday, August 17.
