    One dead following shooting at West Virginia motel

    MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One person is dead following a shooting at a West Virginia motel.

    According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, a fatal shooting occurred on the evening of August 19, 2024, at the Economy Inn located at 1620 Winchester Avenue.

    Deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 8:05 PM.

    Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

    Deputies on the scene, including Patrol Deputies Strickler, McCulley, Cooper, Wolfe, Pierce, Knots, and Hott, immediately began attempting lifesaving measures.

    The Criminal Investigations Division was called in for assistance, with Sgt. Funk, Deputy Giangola, and Deputy Weidman arriving shortly after.

    Emergency Medical Services transported the victim, identified as 65-year-old David Scott Bennett of Inwood, to Berkeley Medical Center.

    Bennett succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

    The incident is currently under investigation by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department and will be reviewed by the Berkeley County Prosecutor.

    Authorities believe there is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.

    Another individual involved in the incident has been identified as 38-year-old Michael Allen Taylor of Martinsburg.
