Dead dog found tied to a tree, cats found in locked cage covered in feces

LEWIS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were arrested after a dead dog was found tied to a tree due to neglect. Three cats were also found locked in a cage on a porch covered in feces , with no food or water.

On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Cpl. 8, Hendershot, and Lewis County Animal Control went to 201 Sand Run Road, Weston, WV 26452, in response to a report of a dead dog tied to a tree.

When they arrived, they found a dog lying across the tree, which seemed to have suffocated. Tiffany Woods and John Ables, the individuals responsible, came out of the house and spoke with the officers.

They claimed that all five animals at the residence were theirs.

As the officers stepped onto the porch, they observed three cats locked in a cage that was covered in feces, with no food or water available.

Animal Control seized all five animals at that moment. The deceased dog was taken to Lewis Mobile Veterinary Services in Jane Lew for an examination.

The veterinarian found that the dog was infested with live fleas, had overgrown nails, was emaciated, underfed, and had been severely ill for a long time.
