MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – David M. Anderson, a 63-year-old physician from Morgantown, West Virginia, has found himself in hot water with the law after admitting to filing a false tax return.

According to the United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld, Anderson deliberately understated his taxable income on his tax returns, resulting in a significant financial loss for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to the tune of $143,599.

This egregious act of tax evasion has not gone unnoticed, as the Justice Department has made it abundantly clear that they are committed to ensuring that those who try to skirt their tax obligations are held fully accountable for their actions.

In the words of U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld, Anderson “fell far short of his obligation” as a taxpayer, and now he must face the consequences. Not only will the physician be required to pay back the substantial amount he owes, including penalties and interest, but he also now faces the very real prospect of a lengthy prison sentence of up to three years.

The federal district court judge presiding over the case will determine the specific sentence, taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines as well as other relevant statutory factors.

This case serves as a stark reminder that tax fraud is a serious crime that the government will aggressively prosecute, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Eleanor Hurney leading the charge on behalf of the government.

The investigation was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation division, underscoring the collaborative efforts between various law enforcement agencies to combat tax evasion and ensure the integrity of the nation’s tax system.

As the case progresses, all eyes will be on the outcome, which is sure to send a powerful message to others who may be tempted to follow in Anderson’s footsteps.
