TAZEWELL, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A Bluefield man was arrested over the weekend after a string of criminal activity was brought to a halt by a good Samaritan with a gun.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office reports that, on the afternoon of Friday, August 23, 2024, authorities received reports of a man armed with a knife attempting to rob a man near a church on Mudfork Road.

The incident saw response from Detective McCulley and Conservation Officer Shupe, who were speaking with a victim involved in the incident when a call came through regarding shot fired roughly a quarter mile from the first incident.

Law enforcement responded to Lee’s Cargo and discovered an individual identified as 30-year-old Cody Daily of Bluefield, WV. The individual was identified as a subject in the investigation and was restrained as life-saving measures were initiated.

The TCSO indicates that Dailey had attempted to carjack a truck and assault the unidentified female driver. The man reportedly told a child inside the vehicle, “I’m going to rape your mommy.”

Multiple community members made their way to the scene in the wake of the ensuing commotion, and one good Samaritan carrying a firearm began demanding the assailant stand down. Dailey charged the man, knocking him to the ground. When Dailey attempted to approach the man again, the man fired one round from his 9mm handgun, striking the suspect in the chest. The suspect was airlifted from the scene to received medical treatment.

Dailey was wanted on outstanding warrants prior to the accident and additional charges are expected to emerge for Abduction, Carjacking, Battery, Assault, and more.

“Thank goodness for the good Samaritans that came to the victim’s aid during her time of need,” said Tazewell County Sheriff, Brian Hieatt. “We are grateful for their desire to intercede on her behalf, had they not acted this could have been a very different outcome.”
