    WVSOM white coat ceremony to feature emergency medicine keynote speaker

    LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The latest group of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine students are set to receive their white coats during an upcoming ceremony which will feature an emergency medicine keynote speaker.

    Scheduled for 2:00pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the WVSOM Student Center Conference Center, the event will officially recognize participants as student doctors and celebrate the Class of 2028’s commitment to a career in health care.

    WVSOM alumnus, Miles Medina, D.O., will be featured as the keynote speaker for the event. Medina is associate medical director of the emergency department and clinical director of the observation unit with Team Health at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge Georgia.

    Raised in suburban Chicago, Medina attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a degree in molecular and cellular biology. He would become a paramedic prior to his enrollment at WVSOM, where he would graduate in 2017 with a D.O. degree. He would complete an emergency medicine residency Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan.

    During his time at WVSOM , Medina was active in student leadership and received the Student D.O. of the Year award and served as president of his class. 2017 saw Medina awarded with the Donald Newell Sr. Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior as well as the Outstanding Student Award for the South West Region of WVSOM’s Statewide Campus. He also delivered the class address at the school’s Commencement Ceremony.

    Medina received Care Satisfaction Recognition during his residency along with Emergency Medicine Resident Association of Michigan Awards for advocacy and leadership. He was recognized in March of 2024 as Piedmont Henry Hospital’s Physician of the Year.
