VICTOR, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A former Ansted police chief has been arrested for buying stolen property and three others have been arrested for stealing the property.

According to a criminal complaint, on the afternoon of June 24th, 2024, Fayette County deputies responded to a reported burglary at a residence on Gray Hill Road in Victor.

Deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:42 PM by the Fayette County 911 dispatch center.

Upon arrival, officers observed two women, the owners of the residence, who informed them that a significant amount of jewelry, coins, household items, and equipment had been stolen from their home.

The victims reported that they had not visited the house in several weeks and were uncertain about the exact timing of the break-in.

One of the homeowners provided a detailed account of the discovery, noting that she found the house in disarray upon her arrival on June 23rd.

Items in the kitchen and dining room had been disturbed, and valuables, including various pieces of jewelry and a collection of antique coins, were missing.

The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be over $33,000.

During the investigation, deputies questioned local vendors and pawn shops, leading them to Carl Giles, a local collector and former Ansted Chief of Police, who had purchased several of the stolen items.

Giles admitted to buying the items from three individuals, Bernard Neff, Nathanial Orozco, and Kane Pike, over the span of several months.

Giles stated he had suspected the items might be stolen and had informed the sellers that he would cooperate with authorities if questioned.

Further investigation revealed that several neighbors had seen the three suspects in the area around the time of the burglary.

Based on the evidence gathered, deputies have charged Neff, Orozco, and Pike with multiple offenses, including grand larceny and burglary.

Carl Giles is also facing charges related to receiving stolen goods.

Neff and Orozco are currently at Southern Regional Jail. Giles and Pike are out on bond.
