WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – With the return of school in session, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department is urging drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic laws, especially in school zones.

Sgt. Tyler B. Sizemore emphasizes the importance of driver safety around these areas, where children are present, and has increased patrols to ensure compliance.

According to studies, approximately 25,000 children are injured each year in school zone-related incidents.

In response, the Sheriff’s Department has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for traffic infractions in these zones.

Drivers are being reminded to reduce their speed, with the school zone limit set at 15 mph when flashing lights are active.

In addition to speed enforcement, deputies will be monitoring drivers for distractions, such as cell phone use, and ensuring compliance with crosswalk and school bus laws.

Any violation, including failure to adhere to these rules, will result in an immediate citation.

Sgt. Sizemore reiterated that the safety of children and motorists is a top priority and that each infraction will be handled with strict enforcement measures.
