BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPREES) – A Special Meeting of the Raleigh County Commission was held on Wednesday morning at which an Assistant Prosecutor was approved by members of the commission.

Tom Truman, who brings decades of experience with the Office of the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney, has been brought on board by the Raleigh County Commission to assist in matters pertaining to the ongoing trail of Natalie Cochran .

Proceedings with regard to the Cochran case had previously been handled by Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney, Ben Hatfield who has since gone on leave in the wake of multiple allegations of misconduct which have recently emerged.

“The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has requested that we hire Tom Truman to act as Assistant Prosecutor to prosecute and assist in the Cochran case and any other duties that need to be taken care of during this time,” Raleigh County Attorney, Bill Roop explained during Wednesday’s Special Session meeting. “Tom previously [has] 25-30 years of experience as prosecutor here in Raleigh County, he’s handled a lot of cases. He has agreed to take the hiring through this time to help the county out.”

A motion to approve the hiring of Truman with the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was ultimately passed by members of the commission, bringing the brief session to its conclusion.
