Social media threat deemed not credible by Fayette County Schools, law enforcement

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Local law enforcement and Fayette County Schools have announced that recent social media threats targeting the district have been deemed non-credible.

The threats, which were posted online and referenced potential incidents on September 10 and 11, 2024, raised concerns among parents and community members.

According to Fayette County Schools (FCS), following an investigation, authorities confirmed that the post in question was a screenshot of a threat made by a student from a neighboring state.

Similar threats have been circulating nationwide in recent days.

FCS officials emphasized the frequency of social media threats across the region and assured the public that each reported threat is thoroughly investigated.

Law enforcement continues to monitor and address all potential risks, providing regular updates to FCS officials.

FCS officials also issued a reminder to students and parents that pursuant to West Virginia Code $61-7-11a, it is strictly prohibited for anyone to carry weapons on school property, including during extracurricular events, regardless of whether the individual has a permit to conceal carry.
