Fayette County Commission issues countywide outdoor burn ban

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Commission has voted to issue an outdoor burn ban countywide.

In an Emergency Meeting held virtually on Friday afternoon, the county commissioners present, Allison Taylor and John Brenemen, believed that a burn ban was necessary due to the dry conditions the area is experiencing.

According to the United States Drought Monitor, Fayette County is currently experiencing an Extreme Drought with little to no relief in sight.

The outdoor burn ban is effective today, Friday, September 13, 2024, and will remain in effect until further notice.

The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management says they worked in conjunction with the Nicholas County Office of Emergency Management and Oak Hill Fire Chief Tim Richardson to make this decision.

The outdoor burning ban is enforceable by law, according to the West Virginia code.
