Annual Cranberry Shindig set for Sept. 29 at Monongahela National Forest

HILLSBORO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The annual Cranberry Shindig is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, from 11 AM to 4 PM, at the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center in Monongahela National Forest.

The event promises a full day of family-friendly activities, including live mountain music, square dancing, and the chance to experience the vibrant fall colors.

This year’s highlights include old-time square dancing, led by veteran caller Lou Maiuri, and performances by the Old Dominion Cloggers.

Square dancing lessons will begin at 11:30 AM, and everyone is welcome to join, regardless of experience.

The Old Dominion Cloggers will perform at 1 PM and 2:30 PM, with music provided by Juanita Fireball and the Continental Drifters.

The event will also feature a noon performance in the nature center auditorium by The Bing Brothers, along with Jake Krack.

Additionally, Roy Moose will present his popular “Snakes of West Virginia” program outside during the festivities.

Local artisans and vendors will offer a variety of demonstrations and goods for sale, including soap making, apple cider pressing, fly tying, wood carvings, and handmade crafts.

Food will be available for purchase throughout the event. Visitors can also browse the nature center’s exhibits and gift shop, stocked with books, outdoor gear, and souvenirs.

While attending the Shindig, visitors are encouraged to explore some of the forest’s natural beauty. Cranberry Glades, celebrating its 50th year as a National Natural Landmark, is in full fall bloom with vibrant cotton grass and colorful foliage.

The Falls of Hills Creek and the Highland Scenic Highway also offer stunning views of the area’s seasonal beauty, with an audio tour available to complement the drive.

The Cranberry Mountain Nature Center is located 16 miles west of Marlinton and 23 miles east of Richwood, at the junction of Route 39/55 and the Highland Scenic Highway.
