DANIELS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A tragic accident early Tuesday morning left a 19-year-old bicyclist dead after being struck by a vehicle on Ritter Drive in Daniels.

The driver of a 2022 Subaru WRX was traveling southbound when they attempted to pass a slower-moving vehicle in a designated passing zone.

During the maneuver, the driver struck a bicyclist, identified as 19-year-old Damion Workman, who was riding northbound.

After hitting the bicyclist, the Subaru veered off the road and overturned in a large drainage ditch.

The driver managed to escape the wreckage without injury.

Emergency responders from the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department, Jan-Care Ambulance, and Ghent EMS arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Workman was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the West Virginia State Police crash reconstruction unit, is investigating the collision.

The identity of the Subaru driver has not been released as the investigation continues.

No charges have been filed at this time.

I seen this I wondered what happened so sad 😞 I don't pass unless I absolutely have to a lesson I learned my husband had a stroke but is able to drive however he may not drive as fast as people would like several times people passed and almost got hit I've learned to be patient if you have to be somewhere just leave a bit earlier might be a reason the car in front of you isn't going fast
