    Human remains identified as missing Kanawha County woman

    CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) announced a significant development in the 2022 missing persons case of Alyssa Smith.

    Smith, who was reported missing in August 2022, was last believed to be in eastern Kanawha County.

    In the fall of 2022, West Virginia State Police discovered human remains in Boone County.

    After months of investigation, DNA testing conducted with the assistance of the West Virginia Fusion Center and Marshall University Forensic Laboratory has confirmed the remains are those of Alyssa Smith.

    Her family has been notified.

    While this development offers some closure, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Smith’s death is ongoing.

    Detectives are still seeking information and urge anyone with knowledge of the case to contact the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section at 304-357-0556.
