    Couple arrested for child neglect after home found in deplorable conditions

    CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A couple has been arrested for child neglect after police find drug paraphernalia, a feces-filled toilet and shower, and insects covering food in the home.

    According to a criminal complaint, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Charleston Police responded to a residence on Beech Avenue in Charleston.

    Upon arrival, police found the residence to be in a condition that was grossly neglecting the health, safety, and welfare of the four children living in the home.

    The parents, 24-year-old Lahna Sanders and 27-year-old Andrew Scott-Alston were deemed responsible for the deplorable conditions of the home.

    The complaint alleges that the couple allowed the four children to reside in conditions that were “entirely unfit” for living.

    In the home, police found drug paraphernalia scattered throughout, filth covering the entirety of the residence, and insects coating the food items.

    Police also discovered feces filling the toilet and shower.

    There was no electricity or running water within the home.

    The complaint alleges that these conditions were recklessly and intentionally allowed by the couple.

    Sanders and Scott-Alston were arrested and charged with Gross Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury.

    Both are currently at South Central Regional Jail on a $1,000 bond.
